BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY FORECAST BRINGS BOULTON TO PLAY AT NOSTALGIAS
The weather is going to finally kick into full spring mode just in time for The Nostalgias this Sunday, October 1 at Perth Motorplex, where hot rods, retro street machines, dragsters and altereds will converge for one of the season’s first major hit outs.
With a sunny 25 degrees predicted, conditions will be perfect for whichever activity you choose to be a part of, be it the Cranksters automotive swap meet beginning from 7am for sellers and 7.30am for buyers, the show and shine which kicks off at 9am, or the drag racing from 10am. And don’t forget the power parade cruise for the Show n Shine vehicles at 1.30pm!
For those who feel like taking to the quarter mile, brackets on offer include Top Eliminator, Middle Eliminator, Top Gas, US Muscle, Oz Muscle, Street Machine, Hot Rod and Classic Bike.
Fitting into the US Muscle bracket will be Kevin Boulton and his classic Camaro, now equipped with a 582 cubic inch big block Chev V8. It might be one of Perth’s quickest street cars, but Boulton still loves to get out and drive it when he can.
“I’ve always loved the second gen Camaros, they’re a bit different and don’t get the same love the first gen Camaros get,” he said. “This thing is still a very streetable car with low comp and big cubes.”
There’s no boost or nitrous underneath the bonnet, with Boulton instead preferring the challenge of making naturally aspirated horsepower, something that fits the mould of The Nostalgias just fine.
“I feel like it is more of an accomplishment to run quick without using turbochargers or nitrous,” he said.
Since the end of last season, Boulton has been at work modifying the car from Pro Tourer to more of a drag spec. He is making a move to slick tyres and with improved front suspension and a bigger convertor, he would like to see his times drop into the 9.6s from his current personal best in the 9.8s.
“I’m really keen to see how these changes to the car will go. The track can be hard to predict at an event like this with lots of different cars and tyres on the track during the day, but I would really love to see a 9.6-something on my time card.”
So whether you have a nine second street beast like Boulton’s Camaro, or just a really cool steel bumper cruiser or Hot Rod you want to bring out of the garage after winter, The Nostalgia’s at Perth Motorplex this Sunday is the place to be.
