Michael Pickens is quite simply one of the best Speedcar racers in the world today.
At just thirty four years old, his list of achievements is longer than most other racers, with highlights including being a seven time New Zealand Speedcar (Midget) champion, winning the coveted Rookie of the Year Award at the Chill Bowl, claiming the Australian Speedcar Grand Prix amongst numerous other feature wins and of course being the Australian Speedcar Champion in 2015/16 after his win at Valvoline Raceway in New South Wales.
Now, Western Australia will get the chance to see the quick Kiwi bring his talents once again to the Perth Motorplex, this time for the opening night of the season: Shannons PowerPalooza.
He has raced on the high banks of the Perth Motorplex before with some success, including a second place finish in 2004/05 at the Australian Championships held at the venue.
This weekend, teaming up with Graham Jones Racing to drive the potent WA#4 machine previously driven by names like Alex Bright and Darren Jenkins, Pickens will be a big hope of taking out opening night honours.
From his Facebook Page, Pickens recently said;
“I’m heading over to Perth in a few weeks’ time on October 28th to race a midget (speedcar) for the Grand Opening Showdown at Perth Motorplex… I can’t wait to get racing again! A big thank you to Graham Jones for the opportunity.”
Once his commitments at the Motorplex are finished, Pickens will head home to compete before jetting off once again to race in America in what looks to be a packed schedule.
Race fans will certainly not want to miss this opportunity to see our local competitors take it up to one of the best in the world this weekend!
Shannons Powerpalooza, to be held at the Perth Motorplex this Saturday the 28th of October will be the first chance this season to the see the Speedcars compete in The Pool Shop Group Perth Motorplex Speedcars Track Championship.
