The Broome racer survived a spirited challenge from Warren Oldfield on the last lap to cross the line ahead of former national champion Ryan Halliday, Kye Blight, another former champion in Brad Blake and Oldfield.
The last two laps of the 40-lap championship showdown capped off a big two nights of racing where neither Brown nor Oldfield wanted to yield any ground to the other and ran side by side with panels rubbing in an all-or-nothing dash to the line.
Oldfield looked like he had Brown’s measure on the back straight but as the two rounded the last corner to the finish line Brown had more momentum on the high line and then the two came together with Oldfield spinning but recovering enough to slide across the line in fifth.
It was one heck of an effort from Oldfield who picked his way through the pack after starting 16th in the main event.
Brown started from P2 next to Jay Cardy while Blight came from P5.
Brown got the jump over Cardy at the start as the field went 25 laps before an incident.
One of the championship favourites in Jamie Oldfield only last two laps before heading infield.
When South Australian Stuey Hill pulled up the #4 on lap 25 the field regrouped and then on the restart Craig Vosbergen, who started from P7, was deemed to have jumped the start that saw him relegated to the rear of the field on the next restart.
By this stage defending champion Darren Kane was up into second but shortly afterwards Oldfield slipped into second before Kane hit the fence and was out.
On another restart with three laps remaining, Vosbergen, who had raced back up to seventh, appeared to suffer rear-end damage on the #8 and headed infield.
The race to the finish was an exciting one and showcased the true talent of the division.
Brown’s win has come in his rookie season in Late Models and is on the back of him winning the Australian Super Sedan Championship only a couple of seasons back.
On the first round of the championship he showed he would be a real threat when he pulled away from the rest of the field in one of the preliminary feature races before he tagged the wall and damaged the 07 on lap 13 out of 20.
He was lucky the first night feature race didn’t count for overall points and he set up the front-row start after winning his final heat race on Saturday night.
Blake started ninth and did well to get the O Show up to fourth and whilst Oldfield would have been disappointed that he didn’t win, he put on some exciting donuts at the completion of the race.
Jarrin Bielby was one of the quiet achievers of the weekend and took sixth after starting 10th.
He was followed over the line by Morgan Melvin (from p17), Michael Holmes (from p13), Paul Stubber (from P15) and Paul Joss (from P8).
Brad Ludlow won the B Main from David Nylander, Chris Pavlovich and Hill who all made the transfer to the back of the A main.
