Western Australia's favorite Speedway race is entering the 27th year with the Sprintcar King of Wings and a date change to coincide with the Australian Sprintcar Championship should make this years right to wear the kings crown an even bigger event. Several seasons ago Speedway supporter Mike Nanovich's name was introduced as a tribute to a man's love of Sprintcar racing after his life was lost in a road accident. The Nanovich name is associated with the Monte Motorsport Team since the formation of the ultra professional team. Luch Monte has fought hard for the trophy that bares his best mates name and will once again have a brand new car and motor combination for this big dollar event. The 27th anniversary of the King of Wings will be run over two huge nights with a number of high profile eastern states and US racers and teams entered. Defending King of Wings Champion
former Australian Sprintcar and Speedcar Champion Robert Farr will make his regular trip west to race in the KoW's.The Sydney based hard charger has won four Mike Nanovich King of Wings crowns and loves the wide open spaces of the Kwinana Beach venue and once again this summer Farr will drive the Barry Waldram owned East Coast Pipeline racer he and good friend Nick Speed assembled only 12 months ago to become one of the best teams in the nation. The Australian Sprintcar Champion Team of Brooke Tatnell and Shane Krikke is hoping to confirm their entry for the second time since Brooke won the crown way back in 1994/95 at the now defunct Claremont Speedway. Tatnell and the Krikke Motorsport outfit from Bunbury are really looking forward to getting back to WA for the big dollar Nano race. Multiple Australian Champion Max Dumesny who would love to add his name to the winner’s perpetual trophy after coming so close in the past. The World Series Sprintcars Champion can't wait to once again challenge the high banks of the nation’s best Speedway track against one of the best assembled Sprintcar field seen in WA for 2009. Bill Mann's Performance Wholesale Racing Team should make its annual trek west, with his son Bryan who did very well last season after competing on the national circuit. The 92.9 Kendrick Racing Team will no doubt enter an American driver in their quest for this year’s King of Wings crown. Stay tuned for whom this year’s lucky American will get the seat in the Osborne Park based racer for renowned owner Geoff Kendrick. ![]() Another American hoping to make his second tour down under is Iowa's Kaley Ghast. From all reports Ghast will once again be racing as team mate to WA Champion Ryan Farrell in a brand new Maxim chassis from the US. Ghast is a Knoxville Raceway regular and as much as he will love the sights of Perth it won't be the priority for this young gas merchant. From all reports former Australian Sprintcar Champion Todd Wanless will head west from his Brisbane base to race in the Nanovich Farms supported race and after getting some track time during World Series Sprintcars and the recent Australian Sprintcar Title, so race fitness won't be a problem. Former Northern Territory now Queensland based standout Danny Reidy loves to race in the west and was one of the first drivers to commit to the King of Wings event. Reidy has swapped his chassis allegiance for this summer and it is this swap that he hopes will take his family owned car to the front of the pack. Stay tuned for several other eastern invaders as they take on the West's best. The big question is can one of these home town heroes break the 7 year drought to stand on the top step of the King of Wings dais including The Watsons Express Transport Perth Motorplex Track Champion Jamie Maiolo, WA Sprintcar Champion Ryan Farrell, AHG Sprintcar Series Champion Ben Ellement, The Geraldton Jet Mark Wells, Mick Goode, Allan Nash, Kalgoorlie’s Scott Milling, Shaun Bradford, Carl Dowling, David Priolo, Albany’s Hall Brothers in David and Greg plus many more.
