Two great drag racing events over the weekend have marked the official commencement of a new drag racing season at Perth Motorplex.
It all began on Saturday night with the running of the Grand Opening, the first event of the nine round State championship.
About 140 teams hit the track from Top Comp to Junior Dragster with some standout performances.
Sharon Sheehan won her first ever event, taking her dragster to personal best times and a stunning win against Adam Marchant.
Fan favourite John Zappia had a tough time taming his Top Doorslammer with wild wheelstands the trademark of his night.
Jamie Chaisty took out Super Comp, while Wayne McGuiness was the last man standing in Competition Bike.
Other winners on the night included Greg James in Supercharged Outlaws, Ron Crosby in Modified, Nick Panagopoulos in Super Sedan, Ian Read in Modified Bike, John Szabo in Super Street and Alanah Cope in Junior Dragster.
There was plenty of fun during the night with fan giveaways, including an awesome autographed helmet.
Once the excitement was done on Saturday, things didn’t slow down for Sunday with the running of the Cruzin Magazine Nostalgias. Old school hot rods and street machines took over the Motorplex with drag racing and cruising all day long, as well as the swap meet and show and shine.
There’s plenty more drag racing to come yet with the Shannons Fast Series this Saturday October 29 and the WA Drag Racing Championships on November 19.
