It’s not just the experienced burnout pundits who will be taking to the Perth Motorplex Snakepit tonight for Badass Burnouts with a few newbies getting their first competition kicks.
Among them will be Josh Gravanta in [HAMMERD], who was lured into competitive burnouts thanks to his mates telling him about the thrill of showing off in front of a big crowd.
“A few of my friends got skid cars and it looked pretty cool,” he said. “They just reckoned it was this big adrenaline rush.
“This will be my first competition,so I feel a bit nervous, but I can’t wait. There’s nothing else you can do that gives you the same rush.”
Garavanta has been practicing at Formula Tech WhoopAss Wednesday events to improve his technique and make sure he can put in a good showing.
He said that reliability is the key in the current burnout scene, to make sure your machine can handle everything thrown at it over those several minutes on the pad.
“Hopefully I’ve got that reliability, it has been alright so far,” he said. “I would like to convert it to a carby and put it on methanol to keep it cooler, methanol fuel means it doesn’t get as hot.”
For anyone thinking about getting their own burnout car, Garavanta was happy to give a testimonial.
“It’s great fun, you can enjoy it with your mates and smash tyres legally,” he said. “For Badass Burnouts I just want to have that fun and pop the tyres!”
Badass Burnouts begins from 6pm tonight and includes some of WA’s best burnout cars such as Fred Watson in [FEAR], Justen Brown in [STRUGLIN] and Matt Purnell in [BLACKOUT].
