Repairing both car and body pays off for Paul Carey

Dozens of Western Australia’s best burnout cars have nominated to throw down extreme levels of horsepower on the Perth Motorplex burnout pad. There to watch them will be burnout videographer (and competitor) Peter Flint, whose YouTube and Facebook channels have amassed thousands of views of burnouts from around the country.
We asked Flinty to pick his ‘Top Five Skids Not To Miss’ to help get you amped for Burnout Boss.

Flinty reckons Jason Abreau is due for a change in luck soon. The recently supercharged Holden One Tonner is capable of putting on an event winning skid.
“Jason has only moved up to the blown class in the last 12 months, and he has had a few teething problems with the car and had some engine bay fires. But he is fearless behind the wheel, he leaves the brake pedal at home! He hasn’t slowed down even with the blower on it, he is a mad man. If he can get past the mechanical issues, look out.” |

Brett Pearson is doing ‘blown on a budget’ and having a blast. Flinty said if there is one problem with Pearson, it’s that he is too fast around the pad! That might cost Pearson in the points but the crowd are the big winners.
“Brett has recently put a blower and hat on with a junk bottom end LS1 and an EFI set up from BYE Performance. He always puts on a really good show, he probably goes too fast around the pad which costs him in smoke score with the judges but is very entertaining to watch for the spectators!” |

When Darryl Ferguson is on the pad in his SMOKINRAT truck, it could be like a scene out of Mad Max. Flinty said Ferguson has been improving with each show as he learns how far to push the massive truck.
“Darryl has been knocking on the door of the podium for a while now, he finished just outside the podium at Red Centre Nats in a really big field, and he finished really well at West Coast Nats too. Every time he comes up to the pad he is hitting it faster and faster, he knows his car now and he is finding a lot more speed.” |

Mick Hamon has one of the baddest burnout cars out there and always put on an amazing show, but getting to the end of a skid has proved an issue for the incredible Commodore according to Flinty.
“He is trying to keep the flames from underneath the car so he doesn’t have to stop, can pop the tyres and do well with the judges. If he can keep it spinning from start to stop, Mick will be very hard to beat because he is so good behind the wheel and uses every inch of the pad at speed. Big revs and big smoke, with no flames he will be on the podium.” |

We all love an underdog, but what about an underfog? Jake Higgs and FOGGIN were a top combination in the open class and since moving to the blown ranks he has impressed. Flinty thinks Burnout Boss could be a breakthrough for Higgs.
“Jake is definitely one to watch out for. He came pretty close to winning West Coast Nats against two heavy hitter cars with his junker LS with a blower. He nearly outdrove both of them. I’d put money on him for the win at Burnout Boss. He has no fear on the pad!” |
Burnout Boss at Perth Motorplex begins from 3.00pm with practice until 5pm, and competition starting from 6pm.
