Carstairs Back on Top!
Glenn Carstairs has tonight shown that he still has the form that made him WA Champion two seasons ago tonight at the TELF Promotional Products Perth Motorplex Formula 500s, winning the opening feature race of the 2018/19 season in dominating fashion.
Matt Brown and Carstairs would start off on the front row together for the fifteen lap feature race, with Carstairs getting the jump in a beautiful start, but it would only last until turn one as a number of cars came together, Luke Nardini the biggest loser as he went sideways and then helicoptered a number of times, half flipping before coming to a rest back on his wheels while Jamie Nardini and Cody Turacchio were also involved.
Luke Nardini and Thomas Davies would be the only two unable to restart, seeing a field of eight take three green once again.
For the second time in as many starts Carstairs got the advantage while Brown settled into second and Brendon Marshman was third.
The field began to spread out until Marshman suddenly slowed with a plume of smoke emitting from his machine, seeing him head infield and handing Cameron Mckenzie the third place position after starting from the rear.
Back up front though, Carstairs was pulling away from the rest of the field, while Brown had also opened up a significant gap on Mckenzie. The closest battle in fact was between fourth placed Cody Turacchio and fifth placed Jamie Nardini, but in the end no positions changed, Carstairs claiming the win from Brown and Mckenzie.
Earlier in the night Ashley Grant’s season didn’t get off to a great start, crashing out in the opening heat race after contact with the wall and ending his night while Cameron Mckenzie was also forced to bounce back from a disqualification in the opener. Chris Dymock’s track championship defense also suffered a blow after he failed to sart the feature event despite qualifying out of position three.
The flying TELF Promotional Products Formula 500’s will be back in action at the Scardifields Smash Repairs King of Wings.
