Johnson claimed a fourth and then a win in the heat races at the December 6 show to start on the front row for the 15-lap final.
He went on to win the feature race from Adrian Haywood and Luke Nardini and as a result he now he has moved from fourth to second and has 847 points, compared to Hooper’s 855.
Hooper started his night in strong fashion with a win in the first heat over Jamie Nardini and Chanelle Condren and then took a fifth to set up a P4 finish in the main event.
Chris Dymock has dropped from second to third in the points battle after finishing sixth in the main event.
Adrian Haywood was another big mover at the last round with a win and a second in the qualifying races that was enough for him to start on pole.
Thanks to his second in the main event he is now fourth in points, rocketing up from eighth.
A strong field of Formula 500s are locked into the traditional Boxing Day event that will also feature the Wormall Civil Sprintcars, Pool Shop Group Speedcars, Southside Engine Centre Super Sedans, Late Models and round two of the Carbusters WA Demolition Derby Championship.
