| The Perth Motorplex Speedway event management team
could have been forgiven for looking to the heavens when nominations closed for the inaugural Magic Man 34 Speedcar
race. With an average field size this season of 20 Speedcars per event it was hoped that with the added influx of several eastern state teams that a field in the high 20's would be achieved. Well when nominations closed on Friday there was not 28 or even 29...the 30 barrier was broken and the final number? The magic number of 34 Speedcars have nominated for the inaugural 34 lap Speedcar tribute to the late great Michael 'Magic Man' Figliomeni. And no there was no skullduggery in achieving this great result...although as previously mentioned there may have been some divine intervention! Along with the Speedcars there will be a healthy field of 30 Sprintcars including the first appearance of US racer Chad Blond who has flown in for some action with the Kendrick 92.9 team, 19 Late Models, 12 Super Sedans and 15 Juniors - a total of 110 teams plus the demo derby entrants - all the ingredients for a great night of Super Speedway. Don't miss a night of history on Saturday night February 9 2008 as we celebrate with the Wild and Wingless Speedcars as they pay tribute to the Magic Man. |
