Labelled as Australia’s most striking billboard, the blown VT Commodore of Maurice Brennan took a giant leap forward last weekend rocketing into the enviable 6 second bracket at the 37th Chill Westernationals at the Perth Motorplex.

After what seemed like a lengthy first half of the season sorting out the usual bugs of a new racecar, Brennan shaved almost five tenths off his previous best by recording a blistering 6.55 sec elapsed time, sighting the milestone run as a massive reward for his hardworking crew and even harder working wallet.

“This just proves that the car is capable of doing what we hoped, but the added bonus is that we’re still running the car soft, so there’s plenty more left in her yet.”

A former West Australian champion in the Super Sedan bracket in the late 90’s, Brennan put drag racing on hold to establish his family and finances. Now with his priorities firmly in place, Brennan has his attention firmly fixed on producing a competitive racecar; a dream that was rebirthed nearly seven years ago.

“We’ve had all sorts of hold ups in our journey so far. Wrong advice and mysterious disappearances of gear that we’d bought from the US has really slowed our progress, but it’s like we’re ready to go now and put down some good numbers.”

With some fresh tuning tips from famed US tuner Darren Mayer from DMPE in Michigan, Brennan is excited about the remaining season, with only 2 more opportunities to run the car on home soil, and the added possibility of running at the Winternationals in Queensland in June.

“We’d love to go to Queensland to give our sponsors national exposure. No matter where we have the car, it always draws a lot of attention, so we’d love to get over there in June and extend our season.”

Until then, West Australians will have a chance to see the 350kmh Commodore in action at the Perth Motorplex on March 15 as part of the Nitro Funny Car Challenge and April 5 featuring the US Jet Dragsters.
