BROOKE Tatnell was credited with winning the 25-lap Nanovich Sprintcar King of Wings preliminary feature race at the Perth Motorplex last night.

The national champion crossed the line second to WA champion Ryan Farrell but was given the win after Farrell’s #95 machine came in underweight on the scales - after being checked four times.

Farrell started on the front row with New South Welshman Robbie Farr and sat behind Farr for much of the race.

He struck late in the event with a slowing Farr crossing third behind national champion Brooke Tatnell.

Farr got the jump on the pack at the start and lead away from Farrell and South Australian Steven Lines.

The leaders of the big 24-car field were into lapped traffic after just five laps but were forced into a single-file restart when Scott Milling ran out of power.

Daryl Clayden forced another caution when he spun in pits bend with 12 laps remaining.

Again it was Farr who led the field away from Farrell and Lines while the smoking #99 machine of Maiolo was holding out Tatnell and Mark Wells.

There was a great battle between Tatnell, Wells, Danny Reidy and David Murcott who all put pressure on Maiolo in the latter stages.

Wells had his front wing peel up while in fifth and then Reidy was forced infield with a smoking engine.

There were many smoking engines on the night including Farr who was still leading when Ben Ellement spun around on the main straight.

This saw a few cars bunch up and Farr unlucky not to flip the 7Q machine, but he did perform a 360 with much of the car in the air.

He landed on all four wheels and was able to stay in front on the restart.

With five to go Farr led from Farrell, Lines, Tatnell and Wells.

Farrell was on a mission and ran the high line to round up the slowing Farr machine with three laps remaining.

Tatnell, who started from seventh, also pounced and claimed second while Farr was just glad he could hold onto the final podium spot.

Lines, who started from fourth and was second in time trials at the start of the show, would have been disappointed with how his show ended when the front right tyre sheered off in the first turn.

Luch Monte had a mixed night in the weekend dedicated to great mate, the late Michael Nanovich.

He was forced to change an engine after time trials but still made it out in time for his heat which he won.

Monte then started from ninth and finished a credible fourth behind Wells.

Victorian David Murcott, driving the Garry Rush 2N finished fifth after winning the B Main and then starting 19th in the A Main.

American Kaley Gharst in the second Farrell #95 car finished sixth after he started 23rd..
