CRAIG Vosbergen leads the Seventh Australian Late Models Championship at the completion
of the first night on Friday night as a part of the Autotrader Fast Friday series.Going into the final round of qualifying and finals at the Perth Motorplex, Kwinana Beach on Sunday night the second generation racer and one of the favourites for the title, has 106 points, just one better than another second generation racer Brad Ludlow who is on 105. |
![]() American Doug Drown, in his first appearance at the Motorplex, is third overall on 102. |
| Given Ludlow’s limited campaign in a late model in recent years his result
was remarkable given his raw speed, particularly on the track’s highline. But the person to be the quickest earlier on was Barry Kelleher who was the best in time trials with a 17.773 second effort, bettering Vosbergen’s 17.904 and Ludlow’s 18.068. Drown was fourth with 18.316 with former national champion Ryan Halliday rounding out the top five with 18.499. |
![]() Defending national champion Brad 'The O Show' Blake struggled early on and only managed an 18.908 second to be 11th while the second American in the field in Ron Miller was 15th with 19.357. |
| Visiting drivers Scott McPherson (18.804) and Darryl Grimson (18.928) were
impressive being seventh and eighth respectively while relatively inexperienced late model racer Lee Watt surprised
many with 18.956 to be ninth from the 28-car field to challenge the clock. Ben Ludlow won the first heat from Phil Richards and McPherson while Kelleher was eighth from nine cars. Halliday opened up his winning account in heat two, leading Vosbergen and Grimson over the line while Blake is fifth. Ludlow won the third heat from Drown and Warren Oldfield while Miller was fourth and another visiting driver in Nathan Disney was eighth. Richards, one of the quiet achievers, won the fourth heat from Jamie Oldfield and youngster Jay Cardy while McPherson was sixth, Ben Ludlow seventh and Kelleher eighth. Another one of the quiet achievers in Terry Chamberlain bolted away with an easy win in the fifth heat while there was plenty of action behind him. He won from Vosbergen and Grimson. The final heat of the night went the way of Warren Oldfield from Drown and Brad Ludlow. Points after night one: Craig Vosbergen 106, Brad Ludlow 105, Doug Drown 102, Ryan Halliday 95, Warren Oldfield, Ben Ludlow 91 each, Darryl Grimson 90, Scott McPherson 86, Barry Kelleher 76, Brad Blake 85, Rob MacGregor 76, Brad Blake, Bert Vosbergen, Jay Cardy, Warren Minshull 66, Phil Richards 65, Kevin Bell 62, Nathan Disney 58, Mark Matthews 54, Jamie Oldfield 52, Terry Chamberlain 49, Veronica McCann, Jason Oldfield 40, Barry Blake, Lee Watt 38, Matt Goodlad 35, Matt Noakes 33, David Nylander 30, Matt Nylander 16. |
