THE John Day WA Sprintcar Championship at the Perth Motorplex this Saturday night, in a way, is like a debut for many of the drivers locked into the massive night of sprintcar racing.
The level of experience from the 28-car field is massive, but for quite a few the pressure of making ‘debuts’ will be real.
Let us explain.
Victorian Jamie Veal, the hottest property in Australian racing in recent seasons, will make his debut as a full-time hired gun for Bunbury-based Krikke Motorsport (he had made a few one-off appearance for the team in the past).
Fellow Victorian Darren Mollenoyux will also make his WA debut in the Cowara Motorsport 41 that is based at Cowaramup in our South West.
Multiple national champion Kerry Madsen (from NSW but living in America) will make his first appearance for the summer in the Perth-based Keneric Racing outfit.
Ben Ellement will front for his first race of the season in the family-owned 44 – assuming he has arrived back from being stranded in Bali (tough life) and has had enough time to prepare the car.
Sean Zemunik is also expected to make his first Motorplex appearance in some time – on the back of another big campaign of racing in America.
Adrian Haywood, who has been racing in the 360 Sprintcar competition, makes his long-awaited debut with a 410ci motor.
Troy Beckingham returns to sprintcar racing for the first time in a few years after also dabbling in other speedway classes
Add in all these ‘debuts’ with all the other factors and form – as well as experience – and it is going to be a race meeting that you just have to be at.
The full field includes: Kerry Madsen, Jamie Veal, Rob Mould, AJ Nash, Andrew Priolo, Jason Kendrick, Daniel Harding, Jason Pryde, Ryan Lancaster, Troy Beckingham, Sean Zemunik, Tim Van Ginneken, Darren Mollenoyux, Ben Ellement, Jamie Oldfield, Darren Mewett, Shaun Bradford, Kaiden Manders, Bradley Maiolo, Scott Chatwin, James Inglis, Cory Hunter Carl Dowling, Adrian Haywood, Kye Scroop, Matthew Cross, Mitchell Wormall and Jamie Maiolo.
And that is just the sprintcars!
Book your tickets online now and we will see you trackside this Saturday night.
