The American-based Sydneysider is in town to contest the 53rd Annual Watsons Express Transport WA Sprintcar Championship and make no mistake this second-generation professional wants to defend the crown he won here 12 months ago.
Tatnell flew into WA two weekends ago, stepping straight off the plane and straight into the Krikke Motorsport racecar that he powered from the back of the grid up to third.
It was a huge effort for the team that was forced to change motors and was struggling with a bad batch of fuel but it showed how determined they were to start their 2014-15 Australian campaign off well.
A lot of pundits tipped this was just the start of things to come and they were right with Tatnell winning the fifth round of the AHG Sprintcar Series at Bunbury Speedway last Saturday night.
It was a dominant drive and while the team used the event as another testing session it showed just how good they are and how hard they are going to be to defeat.
Tatnell wants to steal the WA championship from the local boys again this year but it’s not going to be an easy fight.
Californian Kyle Hirst, who has also been in town for a couple of shows now, is keen to show WA fans why he is so highly regarded back in his homeland.
He also showed signs of brilliance at the recent King of Wings and passed three quarters of the field for a top five finish.
But there is unfinished business in the Monte Motorsport team – they too want to win the title before embarking on an ambitious schedule that includes World Series Sprintcars.
Add in WA hotshots such as 7-time WA champion Ryan Farrell, 4-time champion Mark Wells, Jamie Maiolo, Jason Kendrick, David Priolo, Cameron Gessner, Shaun Bradford and a whole host of other drivers and it is going to be game on.
There will also be a full field of Late Models that will contest TWO feature races at the end of the night and more excitement with the AJ Cochrane and Sons Formula 500s.
Book your tickets online and we will see you trackside this Saturday night.
