The Night of Fire at Perth Motorplex on Saturday, December 30 will be one of the top drag racing shows of the season, and a hit with families.
We’ve decided to give you the reasons why you should get your kids into the car and to the Motorplex for a night of real life action they won’t ever forget!
- Jet Dragsters
Do you remember how awe-inspiring Jet Dragsters were when you were a kid? Share that experience with the family as we send four jet dragsters down the Perth Motorplex drag strip! See USA stars Chuck Haynes and Curt White, South Africa’s Pieter De Wit and newcomer Ian Wood duking it out. Wood will be bringing out the ex-Rosco McGlashan J34-engine dragster for the first time at the Motorplex, so don’t miss this booming spectacle. Get as close as you can along the fence to feel the heat from the afterburner show on the startline, before the Jet Dragsters blast away.
- Freestyle Motocross
Part of the fun of Night of Fire is the constant array of entertainment presented through the night. There will be four shows from the Freestyle Motocross team, backflipping their way through the night! Again, get the family along the fence for a high five from the riders and the best seat in the house as they defy gravity on their motorcycles.
- Monster Fireworks Show
When the Jet Dragsters close out their final runs, the lights will turn off and the sky will ignite with a fireworks spectacular (that some people have said is among the best in the State!). We’ll pump up the soundtrack and you can look to the sky with your family around you reflecting on just how awesome life is!
- APSA Outlaw Radial madness
We’re planning on bringing you a lot more APSA Outlaw Radial action, so don’t miss the first showing of this class at a national event. Big turbocharged powerplants and street-style radial tyres makes for a tough combination to get down the track and you never know just what these cars are going to do.
- Direct Mining Industrial International Summer Slam
The Direct Mining Industrial International Summer Slam has proved to be a hotbed of WA Top Doorslammer action and the third round of this series will present a fascinating scenario. John Zappia has to head east to chase the 400 Thunder championship, so that leaves Kelvin Lyle and Daniel Gregorini in the box seat to be able to take over the Summer Slam lead! But to do that they will have to get past a classy field that includes the rebuilt Steve Aldridge Cuda, the Northern Territory’s Matt Abel, Shane Catalano in the Rude Stude, Ryan Moresby’s ballistic Ford Falcon and crowd favourite Pino Priolo in his famous 37 Chev coupe!
- Get the family in from just $60
A day at the drags does not have to be expensive. Qualifying starts from 10am and the main show begins from 6pm. Arrive as early or as late as you would like! You can get a family of two adults and three kids in for just $60 at the general admission gates with a great view of the track. You are welcome to bring your own food and drink (just remember no glass or alcohol), and make it a budget-friendly night out comparable, if not cheaper, than going to the movies.
- Championships in mid swing
With some 120 teams on the property, there are a bunch of WA Drag Racing Championships in the balance right now.
Stuart Moresby and Russell Ladbrook are in the midst of a tight tussle for Top Comp honurs, while Phill Paton and Justin Townson are in a battle royale of their own in Competition Bike.
Jodi Mellitt is poised to put a stranglehold on the Supercharged Outlaws series with many of her closest points rivals missing this event, while Johnny Brecich and Paul Downe will continue their battles in Top Sportsman. With the series at a midpoint for the season, this is simply not an event to be missed.
- Get into the pits
Any silver or gold admission ticket will let you into the pit area to explore and get up close and personal with amazing vehicles. Ask many of the teams if your kids can sit in or on their vehicles and you may be amazed at how many say yes! See what exactly is up a Jet Dragster’s tailpipe, watch teams uncover their high horsepower motors, buy merchandise and enjoy the atmosphere. Get to know the racers putting on the show.
- Crowd giveaways
Whether you go for the pits or choose to stay in the stands, there is something for everyone. Keep an eye out for our roaming commentators handing out freebies to the crowd and go home with a cool souvenir from the track!
- Real life fun!
Drag racing isn’t done on a screen, it isn’t some virtual reality contest. This is real people in real vehicles in real competition! Get away from your screens for a while, get into the outdoors and witness something genuinely amazing, as dragsters travel at over 400kmh with flames streaming from the back, right in front of your eyes. The only reason to look at a screen is so you can record these beasts in action to show your friends.
