SHANE Stewart, one of the high-profile drivers in the World of Outlaws Sprintcar Series in America is heading Down Under to contest the annual USA v WA Sprintcar Speedweek series over the festive season.
Stewart is no stranger to WA or Australian tracks, having driven for local teams in previous years.
After not being in WA for a few years, it has now been confirmed that Stewart will be driving for Dowling Motorsport for the four-night series – to be held at the Perth Motorplex on December 26 and 28, Bunbury Speedway on January 1 and Albany Speedway on January 4.
Liam Dowling, from Dowling Motorsport, is naturally excited about having the big-time racer in their stable.
“We are really looking forward to having Shane in the car for a few nights over Christmas,” Dowling said.
“He is a great guy with a passion for the sport and a wealth of knowledge.
“This is something we have wanted to do for quite a while and with Carl’s injury and us doing a fairly limited schedule, it seemed like the perfect time.
“We hope the local fans will enjoy having him here again and we will definitely have our work cut out for us.”
Stewart joined in by saying he was excited to be back in Australia soon.
“Liam and I hope that we can have some fun and win a few races while I am down there.
“I love the fans that I have met over the years and look forward to seeing all of them again.”
Perth Motorplex speedway manager Gavin Migro said the inclusion of Stewart in the Speedweek series added to the event’s calibre and each year they tried to lure different American drivers ‘Down Under’ to challenge the local teams.
“We can’t wait to see Shane back here in action – he is a quality driver and will have quality equipment at his disposal, thanks to the tremendous efforts of the entire Dowling family for putting this deal together,” Migro said.
“We look forward to making some more announcements on the series in the very near future.”
