The WA Wingless Sprint Title will be named after the late Des Nash for future events, in honour of one of the founding members of Australian Wingless Sprint Racing Inc.
Nash had a rich history in speedway, having raced Speedcars and Sprintcars from the seventies to the nineties before becoming involved with administration and team ownership.
His passion for speedway has carried on to his sons Lee and Allan, who have both raced Sprintcars competitively, along with Allan’s teenage son AJ.
Having passed away in early February last year after battling a long-term illness, the 2015-16 running of the event was held in Nash’s honour at Quit Collie Speedway and the WA Wingless Sprint community have now decided to continue paying tribute to the speedway stalwart, who was a key player in pushing the division forward on both a state and national level.
WA Wingless Sprints president Kim Beard said Nash put much work into he division and he hoped the re-named title would help pay tribute to his memory.
The 2016-17 season Des Nash WA Wingless Sprint Title will be held at Perth Motorplex this Friday and Saturday night.
