It has been a long wait, but this weekend, the Mobil 1 Australian Late Model Championship finally returns here to its spiritual home.
Almost as a celebration, the biggest field ever seen for a Late Model event in Australia has nominated, with fifty-two competitors coming from all over Australia to race for the right to be Australia #1.
In a field that includes two Queenslanders, two Tasmanians, three Americans, four Victorians, five New South Welshmen, and thirty-six West Aussies, we have no less than seven former Australian Champions who share twelve of the twenty-one Australian Title wins ever held.
“We’re really proud to be hosting the largest Late Model event in Australian history at the most isolated capital city in the world. With so many of the best drivers from all over Australia and the USA – we can’t wait to see what the weekend has in store for the fans!” – Gavin Migro, Perth Motorplex General Manager
Headed by defending champion Joe Chalmers, who raced his way to victory at Toowoomba in Queensland, we also have five-time National Champion Brad Blake in the field (the winningest Late Model driver here at the Perth Motorplex) as well as Kodee Brown and Kye Blight (who each won their respective titles here at the Plex), as well as fellow local champion from 2022/23, Brent Vosbergen.
As if this wasn’t enough, the youngest ever Late Model National champion Callum Harper is also making his way West from Tasmania, making his Motorplex debut, while in late news, two-time champion Darren Kane has also jumped aboard the Nylander Motorsport #54 for the weekend and is looking for his third crown in a third different state, his previous victories coming in Queensland and South Australia.
Of course, there are plenty of drivers in the field that have come close agonisingly close to National Title without a victory: names like Craig Vosbergen, Warren Oldfield, Cameron Pearson, Jay Cardy, Ben Nicastri, Jamie Oldfield and Jac Dolmans Jnr all having grabbed podium finishes previously.
Michael Holmes Racing has imported American Myles Moos especially for this event, and he is joined by fellow countrymen Joe Godsey and Jeff Roth, all desperate to become just the second American to win this event (behind two-time champion Steve Francis).
Add in whole heap of other huge names and this Late Model Australian Championship is one not to be missed!
Make sure to grab your tickets for both Friday and Saturday night at Perth Motorplex!
