Entering into the 4th round of the NDRC Top Doorslammer Australian Championship, Russell Taylor is looking to have an even stronger season than he did in his rookie year, which saw him clinch the Australian Championship! Despite a rough start to the season at the Spring Nationals in South Australia, which saw Lisa Gregorini claim her first national event victory…Taylor has bounced back to claim both the Goldenstates and Nitro Slam event victories at Perth Motorplex – where he looks to try for a three-peat on the West Coast at the upcoming EGT Westernationals.

“The Westernationals is always a race that everyone wants to win. We’ve got 3 rounds on the NDRC calendar in Perth this season and I’m stoked we’ve grabbed the win in the first 2, maybe can go for all three! (If we’re lucky).” – Russell Taylor

Taylors run at the 53rd Westernationals was a bittersweet experience, with Russell initially defeating Frank Taylor and Lisa Gregorini in the first 2 rounds to book himself into the A final, where it all came undone at the hand a red light against John Zappia – which saw Zap go on to take the event victory on a 5.676s E.T. @ 401kph! However his recent form at the Goldenstates and Nitro Slam suggests that “Rusty” is the man to beat! Claimed the last 2 Top Qualifying spots and event victories.

“I can’t wait to get into it, I just wanna go fast, doing that (at home) in front of a mint Westernationals crowd is the cherry on top!” – Russell Taylor

Of course Western Australian drag racing fans are no strangers to fast times and epic racing from Doorslammers, with the Motorplex consistently fielding the largest group of Doorslammers in the country on a regular basis, as part of the Direct Mining & Industrial Top Doorslammer Championship – which will run alongside the NDRC Points round at the Westernationals again.

There is a whopping 13 of the nations best Top Doorslammers on the entry list, all looking to hold the NDRC Gold Christmas tree on Sunday night! Featuring both John & Brodie Zappia, Lisa & Daniel Gregorini, plus Matt Abel, Steve Aldridge, Jeremy Callaghan, Maurice Brennan, Peter Kapiris, Frank Taylor, Shane Catalano and Mark Chapman  – Rusty is certain to find a challenge in every round!

“Special thanks to everyone involved in this championship with NDRC and the Motorplex, and to Kelvin Lyle who jumped in to back the Direct Mining & Industrial championship at the Motorplex this season too, it’s awesome to have great support, and I can’t wait to see everyone at the Westerns!” – Russell Taylor
