Victorian Steve Loader is loading up for a massive Epic Tyres Burnout King on Good Friday at Perth Motorplex, bringing across a legion of burnout boys keen to tear it up and show Western Australia’s best who’s boss.
Loader will have his HT Premier [UCSMOKE] set for kill and when it comes to the competition he says he wants to turn the crowd to his side.
“There’s a couple of guys there who like to give it a red hot go and it’s always good to beat those guys to stir them up at the end of the night,” he said. “I just like to go in for the atmosphere – it is just a fun time. I don’t care about winning or losing, if you win it is always a bonus, I just want to do a big entry and get the crowd amongst it.”
It seems high speed is going to be Loader’s burnout strategy. Burnout competitions are now far more sprint than endurance and he said that the crowd expects to be entertained by every phase of the skid, from tip in to high speed changes of direction and maybe even just a few sparks and flames to finish it off.
“Times have changed, slow skids are now boring – no one wants to see that stuff,” he said. “A skid used to go for three minutes. Now it is minute or minute and a half and it is all about high speed stuff.
“When you tip it in you need to hope for the best that it steers the way you think it is going to go; it definitely takes a little bit of skill there. I believe a skid is not having respect for your car, go out there and it is what it is. If you damage it you damage it!”
Loader feels like the Perth Motorplex pad will suit that style and with the crowd able to be close and feel the excitement of a top burnout.
“The (Perth Motorplex) pad is a good pad, you have a little bit of a run in and it is a decent size,” he said. “It is not the biggest pad but it’s not the smallest either and with the crowd so close you really get the feeling of their reaction.”
Joining Loader for the trip over will be Andrew Lynch with [LYNCHY], Russell Harris with [LOOSE], Rick Fuller with [LSONE], Michael Cleary with [GMHAZD] and Adam Slorach with [NUMNUTZ].
[UCSMOKE] is equipped with an 8-71 supercharged 532ci big block Chev, methanol injected and producing 1150 horsepower. Loader will turn the motor to 8500rpm throughout the burnout as he hopes to take out the $10,000 prize to win.
“I’m 31 now and I have been doing burnouts since I was 18,” he said. “I did a lot of travelling in my earlier days, going to every event I could. The bar has been stepped up since back then. You have to keep up with everyone else.
“When you go to an event you go to catch up with everyone else. I know a lot of guys in Perth now so it is good to catch up with the boys.”
Epic Tyres Burnout King unleashes on Good Friday (April 3) at Perth Motorplex from 5pm with spectator gates open from 4pm.
