Despite suffering catastrophic engine damage during their last trip to Perth, the O’Rourke Motorsport outfit is ready and rearing to go in their pursuit for back-to-back event wins at this weekend’s Westernationals at Perth Motorplex.
The OMS crew took out the 2016 Westernationals, and will be doing all they can to take out consecutive Westernationals event wins this weekend.
“To take out any event win is special, but to take out event bragging rights at the same event twice in a row is just even more glory for the team and something we will certainly be chasing this weekend,” OMS Team Principal and Top Doorslammer racer Grant O’Rourke said.
“The Westernationals are an important event for us – Debbie and I hail from Perth originally and even though we now live in Brisbane, we always try to make it back to race at home.
“It has been a crazy lead-up to this event after our last run in Perth in February, but the crew has thrown everything they have at it to make sure we are ready for this weekend.”
The all-hands-on-deck effort was called for when at the Goldenstates event in February, the OMS Top Doorslammer suffered catastrophic engine damage due to a parts failure in the semi-final.
This left the crew to piece its engine back together in time for this weekend’s event and it has been an effort which has come down to the wire. Indeed, the team arrived in Perth earlier this week with nearly “half an engine” in suitcases.
“To arrive here in Perth with a fair bit of our engine in some suitcases was pretty daunting, but all the crew have pulled together to get it across the line ready for this weekend,” O’Rourke said.
“We also undertook some testing ahead of the last event and have used the lessons learned there to make some changes ready for this weekend.
“We are confident that we are moving in the right direction, and we can’t wait to get on the track and do all we can to push for back-to-back Westernationals wins.”
