Jet car action ready to pop at Motorplex
The Fast Series is proving to be popular among drag racing competitors with the relaxed atmosphere but constant action providing the best of both worlds.
The third round of the series, held on Saturday at Perth Motorplex, attracted over one hundred entries with massive variety. Everything from Junior Dragsters, to turbocharged wheelstanding Mazdas, to a supercharged V8 Jaguar were on track and all enjoying the warm night conditions, especially once that pesky wind subsided!
Here’s some of the action that went down thanks to photographer Ryan Annear who popped in for a couple of hours early in the day…
Brett Glover had some 10.5 inch wide tyres that the team was testing. Car owner Peter Glover said that the 10.5 tyres keep their shape better which will hopefully provide the high horsepower Mazda with better stability down track.
The Chich Mazda needed a push back but this photo is a great opportunity to show off the new readout boards that were fully functional on the night. How easy to see are those numbers in broad daylight?
If old school American muscle is more your thing, can we recommend something along the lines of Goran Kojic’s [SAVAGE68] Camaro? The bonnet lump…mmmmmm…
Or something more home grown? Andrew Dobbs was the winner of the Oz EFI bracket, which continues to be one of the most strongly supported categories in the Fast Series.
How about one the kids can get into? Connor Wood was one of the many Junior Dragster drivers on the property. Connor is the son of Top Fuel Motorcycle racer Tony Wood, so we wonder if some nitro could be in this young lad’s future…
Long time racer Bernie Ellerby had a night to remember in the Classic bracket, bringing home the winner’s trophy in the HB Torana.
Blake Jeffreys is always tough, be it in Super Street at national events or Street Fighter in the Fast Series. He took the win on Saturday night.
Here’s some onboard video from Norbert Claite who was testing out his now supercharged Jaguar. Despite the parachutes failing to deploy on this 180mph+ pass, Claite was able to bring the sleek car to a stop.
